Maruti Fronx is a compact crossover jointly produced by Suzuki and Fiat since 2006. In India, the company introduced the Maruti Suzuki SX4 sedan in 2007. Initially equipped with a 1.6 litre gasoline engine without VVT, it was updated later to a model with VVT with the same engine. In 2010, Maruti introduced an SX4 model with a CNG kit fitted from the factory. In 2011, they introduced a diesel version of the car with a Fiat 1.3 litre DDiS engine.

In 2015, the company launched the Maruti Suzuki S-Crossover with DDiS engine in India through NEXA outlets only. Making its debut at the IIFA awards 2015, the S-Cross does not wear the badge of Maruti Suzuki like other cars. Instead, it has a Suzuki logo with the model name. The Indian version of the car has two slats and more ground clearance than the European versions. The interiors are all black with silver inserts.

A facelifted version of the car was released in India in 2017 with a mild-hybrid setup, 48-volt belted alternator-starter unit, 1.3 litre turbodiesel engine, and 5-speed manual transmission system. In April 2020, they discontinued the diesel version due to BS6 norms, and in August, they came up with a petrol car featuring a 1.5 litre mild hybrid version with 4-speed automatic transmission.
